| | | what do you think? Just bought it and made my first character a ranger, but I found arrows to be weighty and I'm not a fan of wasting a few arrows before you find your target. So I started up a barbarian and am hacking my way through, with a bow for those few ocassions where it's necessary. I've also given the other classes a try, and am thinking about a cleric just cause their armor is cool lookin and it's a decent balance of melee and spells. I know the ranger is what a great deal of people think is the BEST because of the bow, but aside from that, which do y'all think is the best? |

| | | Hi! The Ranger is my favorite, but the others all have their particular charm, strengths and weaknesses as well. Assuming you are playing solo, the easiest I've found to play (I have at least one of each characters leveled all the way up to 50 and some two) is the Barbarian. The toughest for me to play alone is the Wizard. Don't give up on the Ranger, the first time through you can level up your Endurance feat a bit so that you can carry more arrows and when you find some Bull Runes, you can socket them into your armor or weapons. That will not only help with strength, it will allow you to carry more weight.
Also, put some points into Regeneration. It will allow you to carry less mana. Whether you put points into Healing, so that you can carry fewer healing potions is up to you. I don't because you can only have so many spells easily on hand at one time and Healing isn't passive like Regeneration.
More Ranger advice: Level up Archery as soon as you can. Level up either Slashing or Blunt NOT both. Either one is fine. Cold Arrow works well, especially on Adventurous and Courageous, less well on Champion but still valuable to slow down enemies and get past shields. Critical Hit is absolutely essential! Dual Wield is somewhat controversial, but I use it and it works very well for me. Of the other elemental arrows, I level up Fire Arrow. I find it to be the strongest. Entangle is another optional, but sometimes useful feat. Another controversial, but to me essential feat, is Multi Fire. Some will argue that it's not as effective as it should be, but it's got me out of more than one fix and I find it indispensible for "crowd control". |

| | | Characters The Shadow Knight and the Cleric are probably the easiest, becuase they are the most balanced charactes. The Barbarian isn't that hard either, just slice your way through everything. It can become difficult with the Ranger later in the game when guys learn to start blocking arrows. Guys also run at you, which you can handle with your melee weapon but is kind of annoying. The Wizard is far and away the most difficult, especially at the beginning. But once you get to level 15, you get shock of fire which will kill most enemies at that point in the game in one hit. |

| | | I didn't care for the Cleric all that much The limitations on the weapons were a bit severe and trying to find a weapon that was better than what I found in the first act was tough. I think a unique club finally dropped in the 5th act that beat it.
What is up with the (paraphrased) "Adding this item to this weapon would put the stats outside of the intended maximums" error I got when I attempted to buff up a weapon that nearly matched the first one I found, but with a couple gems would beat it? Really now, are they afraid I would become too powerful because I added a larger fire damage "gem" to the club than they intended? Why couldn't they list the maximums for an object with a press of R1? It would be nice to know it wouldn't allow it BEFORE I added increased weapon speed.
I am trying the Shadow Knight now. Leveling a lot faster solo than with my wife playing in the same game. So far I like him. It was especially fun at level 2 swapping weapons 5 times in 15 minutes because the one I found was better than the one I was using. |

| | | Shadow Knight by far is the easiest to play along with the Barbarian. They can use any weapons (as long as it isnt for a particular race). The Shadow Knight is awesome with the fact that they can summon skeletons. They are a good distraction on the bosses. The Barbarian is good because they just hack through everything. I think that is it.

| | | I think I'm gonna pick up a new copy, since mine was stolen back at school and try a shadowknight. I still have my saves though, I hope, and I might even see hoe my wizard is doin. Now that was an interesting game. My one completion of the game was done with a cleric. I needed it for the hammer. In some situations you just need a summons. | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Rate This Thread | Linear Mode | |
