| | | List of 'Diablo Clones' for PC? Hi:
I am thinking about picking up some old Diablo clone games, and am looking for someone who can give me some sort of list. By 'Diablo Clone' I refer to action- RPG, not D&D rules with turn-based action like BG or KotOR or NWN.
Here is what I know:
- Diablo (obviously ... and which I have)
- Diablo II & expansion (I don't have)
- Sacred (I have)
- Heretic Kingdoms (I have)
- Restricted Area (not out yet)
- Dungeon Siege (have for the Mac)
I have heard of:
- Nox ...heard there's a demo, I'll try to find it
- Blade & Sword ... supposed to be terrible.
Any other thoughts for me?
Thanks,
Mike

Oh, and I downloaded the NOX demo, only to find out it was multi-player only, and the game couldn't find any MP servers ...

| | | Darkstone, from 1999 I believe, got a lot of criticism for beeing a diablo rip-off.
Also said to be too easy and more or less never ending, I just played it a little bit and never got hooked by it. |

| | | Divine Divinity is a lot like Diablo 2 except that it has more depth as far as dialogue and plot are concerned.

DD is far more like Ultima VII: lots of active towns, NPCs who follow schedules and go to different places, tons of quests that can be done in a non-linear fashion, many optional quests, a completely configurable character based on skills rather than profession, etc. None of this is in Diablo 2.

| | | I just started to play Restricted Area, since I got the impression it would similar to Diablo. So far, it seems similar inasmuch as you have some basic characters types you can play and those have skill trees you can choose different skills from. The fighting is much more one-dimensional and repetetive than in D2, and then there is this absolutely horrible story and really pathetic voice acting, which I wish they had left out. I doubt I will manage to continue playing Restriced Area.

| | | Champions of Norrath might pass as a Diablo clone, though I don't think its for the PC. Everytime I play it the first game that comes to mind is everquest, of course, but I think it resembles Diablo in a few aspects, such as the hacking & slashing and spells/special abilities that don't take much time at all to conjure. |

That is supposedly very much like Champions.

Most 'Diablo Clones', however, have interesting differentiating features that make them interesting. And, older ones I can get for a couple of $ on eBay (like Darkstone or Revenant or Nox, for instance)
