| | | Jack Thompson set his sights on Bioshock I think some of you here already know who this idiot anti-game attorney, Jack Thompson, is but guess what? He's at it again but this time, it's not GTA IV or even Manhunt 2 on his hit list. It's Bioshock. Read this article for more information. Quote:
According to a comment apparently posted by Thompson on Game Politics, it looks like the videogame-hating attorney is about to set his sights on 2K's Bioshock - the gorgeous shooter that's currently getting top marks from the gaming press.
"Please note that big trouble is on the way for Take-Two re BioShock" states Thompson, likely enraged by the game's large abundance of adult content and highly-detailed hookers.
| Now why am I not surprised?

| | | You have to admit, the guy's pretty fun. A pity he doesn't realise it. Personally, I think that people who would commit acts of violence because of a game, should indeed be kept from playing them, just like you would have to monitor which films they watch or which books they read. If you can't tell the difference between a game/film/book and reality, you're in dire need of help...
P.S.: Des, what happened to your squirle avatar? I thought he was pretty cool. |

But really, the way this guy behaves is as if he's got too much free time on his hands.
Anyway, on the subject of Little Sisters, let's take the example of Star Wars Episode III: The Revenge of the Sith. Anakin went into a room in the Jedi Temple and killed the 'younglings' (children adept in the Force). I certainly didn't hear of any complaints regarding that part of the movie. Bioshock did something similar with the Little Sisters and lo and behold, a complaint or two arose. The one thing in common is that both didn't show how the younglings or the Little Sisters were killed but yet Bioshock was targeted. How hypocritical is that? Quote:

Haven't changed it in a while, that's why. I will change back to that avatar if I get tired of this one.

| | | They just exagerate anything that happens in a game. Most gamers take the violence as part of the story, they don't consider it an end of itself. In the other article you posted about, they describe Bioshock like it's all about killing little girls. It's just a part of the game, not the essence, but "the big crowd" of people read those articles because those are generally the only source on gaming they encounter, and they think all games are about violence "an sich".
Last I heard about Jack-Ass Thompson was that one judge or another had threated with suspending his lawyer-license if he didn't stop "almost randomly dragging companies through the mud." Good thing, I say. |

| | | Jack'O and people like him are ignorant fools who, I feel, enjoy pointing fingers in order to assauge some deep problem or deficet in their own lives. These friggin' games are fantasies that we, the players, can live out. While we play we are forgetting the rules or reality...if there are players who do not see the difference, then they are psychotic and would manifest their pyschotic behaviors some other way. All this guy is doing is bleeding the profits and getting rich by feeding off of ignorant people's prejudices. |

I think that if you start shooting people because you played GTA, you'd be doing something similarly foolish if you hadn't played GTA. | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Rate This Thread | Linear Mode | |
