Deus Ex HDTP

A while ago I mentioned that it was a shame there weren't any renovation projects for the original Deus Ex like there had been for System Shock 2. Well.. unwittingly inspired by a James Bond movie, I did a search today and I found this:

Deus Ex - Project HDTP

Seems a lot like the SS2 restoration project that was done a few years ago. I did a quick search on the GameBanshee forums, but I couldn't find any mention of this.

Good news, no?

Side note: I'm not sure if this is the right forum for this, I can't find the appropriate section for a change. I don't really consider DX an action RPG at all, since it offers a completer RPG experience than for example Oblivion, which despite its destitute resemblance to an rpg has its own forum here. Should this project finish (and it seems well underway), I'll make sure to send in a news report.

In addition: Deus Ex : New Vision mod for Deus Ex - Mod DB

The HDTP tackles models and objects, New Vision refurbishes walls, floors, computer panels and the likes. It's still a ways away from release, but it looks to be worth the wait. Whether or not this release will support bump mapped textures (there's a screenshot), depends on whether or not they can get Deus Ex to run on less fossilized iteration of the Unreal Engine.

For more info on that particular project, browse the forums of Deus Ex: Reborn (- the forums -, the main site itself doesn't show much)

It seems likely all three mods will end up being merged at some point, creating something more up to par with the graphics and physics of Deus Ex 2. Very interesting.
