This was really tough as I recall because of your low level when you encounter him. Get used to it because there are alot more and they all suck. If you have a cleric in your group try turning him. This might not work because also because of your low level. If it does it will buy you some free hits. I seem to remember having acquired a wand of cone of cold by this point that I used on him rather effectively.
