Funes is taking a position that I've never heard before from anyone in the RCC hierarchy. If he has Vatican approval on that--which he certainly must--it may represent a willingness by the Pope to allow for at least the idea of scientific speculation. Which is a damn sight further than some Pentacostal and Protestant groups will alow.
