I'd say that the tremere is the best clan of them all so you're doin' the right thing liking them
Although, what you really should aim for in the game with a tremere (easiest way for me at last) is to take dominate to level 3(suicide) and thaumaturgy to level 3(bloodshield).
The rest of the points should be spent on firearms and perception.
I got the 'Jamie Sue' rifle and used it on Society of leopold quest, killed the boss with TWO shots, and the rifle didnt shake or anything while I was aiming.
Of course you'll spend the rest of your points to your liking, depending on how good you feel you are in different areas.
If you are a poor melee fighter you should spend them on stamina and dexterity if you are good you just press on with the strenght and charisma
Note* I got a lot of points reading books and talking to npc's for skillpoints. So get your "scholarship" up early in the game, also gets you persuasion skill up
