| Game with the most monsters I don't know a lot about computer games, but as far as table-top role-playing goes, I think Shadowrun has the just about most monster types because your NPCs can be any player archetype out of about a hundred and the monsters lists name about a hundred different 'awakened' beasties too. Thus, you can encounter humanoid archetypes like "The former company man," "gang member," "Elven Street Samurai," or "Combat Mage" and then you can also encounter monsters like the Bandersnatch or the Bogie. Battle tech is a game that focuses on giant robot battles rather than monsters, really, but Battletech has hundreds of unit types with a high number of variations. Some of the Clan mecha can appear in five variants, too, so usually every Battlemech you encounter on the battlefield is unique enough to make it a new threat. Once I made a personal list of monster names and monster types for the purpose of making a game, but since I came up with over five hundred monster types, I didn't go ahead and make a game out of it. I think five hundred is about as exhaustive a monster list as anybody could want or need. I think the Internet has monster lists for D&D and certain other games. If you are into Champions gaming, then every character or villian or NPC has the same basic character sheet details, so the number of "monsters" depends on how many characters your GM has for the campaign...the supplement books list hundreds of super villians. I hope this helps answer your question. |
