Oblivion: OK, lighter for the most part
Morrowind: Dark
Diablo I/II: Dark
NWN/2: Dark
Fable:Light
KotOR/2: Futuristic, so its both.
The Witcher: Dark/Sometimes light

In my experience, it's seemed like a lot of them were dark and gloomy, both cosmetically and story-wise.
I'm not really big on top-downers. (I know, what's wrong with me?) I got into the RPG universe with KotOR, so maybe that's why.
