It looks like I found my own answer, but I'm not sure because I've also read you can start a new Drizzit character; but it does say here that you can
import him, which doesn't hold much hope as starting him as new:
Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance @ GameBanshee
"If you successfully complete "The Gauntlet" within fifteen minutes, it will unlock the Extreme difficulty mode. Finish the game one more time using the new Extreme difficulty setting, and you'll be able to import Drizzt from your savegame in "The Gauntlet"."
Dang, let me know if that's wrong because I already know for a fact you can start off with him in a new game by holding L + R, the only issue is he starts off at level 16 rather than 1.
