Actually, a lot of people here consider BG2 to be the superior game. Sure, BG1 had a lot more open areas, and it was harder with far fewer overpowered items... all good things in my books. But, BG2 had a lot less FedEx quests, more meaningful role-playing decisions, and *much* more in-depth NPC interaction. Moreover, BG1 was considerably more combat-focused than it was story-focused.
It is especially owing to the party banter and strong story elements that I view BG2 as the better of the two. But, of course, that is entirely subjective, and with Tutu+BG1 NPC project installed the picture begins to change. However, I am basing my preference on the vanilla version of each game.
Regarding PS:T, yeah.. that was my thought too
