She could also be intending it as revenge at all the moral high priests and priestesses in our cultures, who condemned the series for "satanism." Waiting until the last book came out, then stating that one of the important characters was gay--when there's no evidence to this--really looks an attempt to cause a bunch of heart attacks among the hypocrites.

Mind, this may be giving Rowling too much credit, and it may be as you suggest. But either is certainly possible, and I think we agree that this postcript confession sounds about as impromptu and honest as an interview with George Bush.
