| I would suggest patching your game even if you are playing only single player. The reason for that is that a patch is basically a compilation of bug and problem fixes, and as no program is perfect from the very start, you should apply it for a better gaming experience.
I usually download patches at fileplanet.com. You will need to make an account which is free.
As for testing it with a new character, what I mean by that is not actually playing through the whole game from the start but rather restarting with a sample character, just for the purpose of seeing whether he/she can successfully dual class. If he/she can, then the problem lies with your current game. If he/she can't, the problem is with the installed game itself. You don't need to save, just check if you CAN choose the two spells.
