| A fighter type's hitpoints depend on his level as well as constitution, however, unlike non fighter types, he gains benefits from constitution above 16, so, the score could play a part in this. Also, as it's D&D based, there's luck involved as usually you roll for your hitpoints. I'm not sure if this is the case here but it very well could be.
As for the sling, if it's not in your inventory, it's a bug. If the sling disappears on the game screen, it means it's out of ammunition.
