Yes, I've patched, and I even bought the expansion before finishing the OC.
You're right though, I didn't get a cutscene after felling the big oaf. Should have recognized that something was wrong but, well, I never played that part before.

In the meantime, I've tried tackling just the giants and it yields the same results. I've also tried going farther into the main quest and I've still had the same results.

Do you have any tips or leads on console commands for firing off those scripts?

I begin to wonder if I'm just missing triggers in those areas, not entirely impossible, maybe.
Well, it can be a daunting task if not familiar with the toolset and consoles, but if you open the game's modules in the toolset (copy them so you do not accidently alter them), you should be able to find the area and in that area you can find the various scripts, dialogs, triggers etc which are run.
If you then can find the proper script to trigger, you can via a console command trigger said script.
I've seen references on this forum to how to do that - but not having been forced to do so myself, I've never actually did these things.

I do not like the toolset much myself, as I find it very confusing compared to NwN1s when it comes to looking up items and scripts - but I guess it's cause I do not use it as much (in NwN1 I used it to spawn plot items if they didn't spawn correctly).

I hope you can find out how to move on, because otherwise, I only think there is the previous save route out of your problem (as said by poster above, if you generally have problems - save often, in different slots).
But if you generally have problems with triggers not firring, it sounds as your installation of the game is somewhat broken somehow......
