I'm one of those people, and Sarevok was unbeatable in my last game, as I chose for RP reasons not to do the TotSC stuff. Same as what the OP said, all the battles previously were fairly easy, and I sped through the game, but the final battle was literally impossible and I had to just give up. So not IWDII related only...
