| If you're playing Diablo 1 in single player then you can just chuck anything on the ground and it'll be there when you save.
If it's multiplayer then it'll stay there until you leave the game, so remember to pick it up before closing the map. Additional note about multiplayer is if you chuck stuff on the ground it is possible for other players to pick it up.
