On a skim through the manual (for something else) I stumbled on the answer. Apperantly Blood rage prevents you from feeling hopeless. Note however, that there are some drawbacks. It does not cancel the effect if the spell is already cast. You lose total control over your character. It will even attack your own party members, but as far as I have seen it, your character still prefers enemies. After the spell has passed (duration 2 turns) you get fatigued and your strength is reduced to 3 for 2 additional turns.
A second thing I noticed, is that undead summons seem imune to emotions (duh). They are however of limited use. They have a to high taco and are sliced up pretty fast were I am now.
