| In Might and Magic 3 as well as Worlds of Xeen, any character can obtain the Thievery skill. In my opinion, you can wait for the chests since the starting quests and monsters give decent money or gem rewards. You get more powerful with the characters, and for the long haul more casters are beneficial for the end game. If you MUST have a thief, my recommendation would be the Ninja. They're the best fighters of the thief class characters, and if you combine them with certain races(Gnome and Elf get +10 Thievery IIRC) you get even more bonus to the thief skills.
