a) It is dead slow. Always was, but lately it is lagging like mad. I can't even walk along the street or something. My PC actually meets the system requirements, I only have essential background applications running and all visual effects are turned off / set to high performance instead of high quality. I don't get it. I've never had problems like that with other (more demanding) games. Maybe you know some tricks...
When I was first playing, it was a 1.5 GHz 32-bit with 1M memory and a fairly decent graphics card. After I did everything you did, it was playable - but just barely. Thus, I got used to sneaking everywhere - much easier to play that way on a borderline machine.

I upgraded a little over a year ago to substantially friskier 1.99 GHz 64 X2 Athlon with 2 Gb of RAM a Radeon X1600 series with .5 Gb of Ram. The first time I played VTMB after buying it, I was over-correcting like crazy.

You have to watch it when they say "minimum system requirements". Technically, XP will run in 512 MB of ram. By the time you open notepad you're in the paging file already, but technically it does run, as does VTMB on your system - just barely.

Usually the best short term fixes are more memory and a better graphics card, if you can't afford to replace the system completely.
