I tend to think that realism is probably the best route to go

There is a lot of collective talent on these boards, and I have little doubt we could create a first-rate game.
The potential pitfalls, IMO, are the fact that this would require three or four years of commitment, all of which would be volunteered time, and the clincher would be somehow maintaining steam so that people are unlikely to drop out. The other issue is that seeing as this would be a collaborative effort, steps would need to be taken to absolutely minimise possible conflicts.
This, amongst other things, requires a subtle balancing act between ensuring people feel they have say in decision making while simultaneously, having something of a structure and hierarchy in place that accomplishes said decision making. In other words, flavours need to be subtle and well placed, while bearing in mind that 'too many cooks can spoil the broth.'
