Yes. You have to progress further into the game's story, then those quest will be available.

During the soul collecting quest, there are alternatives to getting the souls in order to open up the Bronze Gate to Archon's Folly much later in the game. Killing Briar Rose is the evil way of getting the soul of the heroine. Quote:

At this stage, the hobbe cave is a good place for gaining experience points. (Spoilers, please highlight)
Much later in the game, the Graveyard Path will be the destination of choice for gaining a lot of experience points and high combat multipliers.
