A bit like the refugees dotted around KOTORII, Nar Shadaa in particular. Yes, the games have been good so far with presenting problems as complex and non-straightforward, not just "bad guy! blam!" etc. In fact, I think that's one of the things I really enjoy about the KOTOR series above many other games.
