| you could try the modern clones ufo: aftermath and aftershock. aftershock (the more recent one) is definitely the better game, but a bit buggy and it gets rather repetetive and the difficulty is a little uneven. there are some mods out there to flesh out the tech tree, but the lack of many of the base management features from x-com and the weak combat still make it feel a little insipid.
