The worst one I ever heard is Thomas Crapper--and the horrible thing is, he *did* invent the comode. Crapper actually gave humanity a boon, by recognizing the value of removing waste products from the immediate environment (which had never been thought important before, and still isn't, in some very unsanitary parts of the world). And what happens? His name becomes a byword for solid waste, itself.
