Looks like a lot of people seem to hate guns the ever since they saw the Fable 2 trailer. In my honest opinion, its too early to criticise Lionhead's decision to implement guns into Fable 2. Just wait for the gameplay video or video demonstration to see how it works then you discuss whether it is a good or not.
About your shield idea, its marvellous. Always wanted to bash someone with it and to protect yourself against very damaging blow. Hope it would also prevent 'flourish' attacks too.
