| Unless there is some kind of a sequence problem (i.e taking the gem before speaking with Haer'Dalis) , it sounds like you could have a bug.
The last time I played through this section I did not add HD to my party and he showed up at the Playhouse with the acting troupe just fine.
Do you have the last patch as well as the Baldurdash Fix Pack?
Also are you running any mods? It's possible they could be creating a conflict in some way, since not all are compatible with one another.
