Never say never. It all depends on whether a developer, financed by a publisher, sees it as a money-making proposition. -I hate to put it that way, but that commercial part of matters is an important part.
I've been routing for a remake of Darklands for a decade, now. That was a sensational game for its time, very forward-looking, and some elements of it (like the creative integration of mage and priest classes as medieval alchemists and pious types who pray to saints) still haven't been equaled.
