this would seem to be a tactical error, you may be better off using ranged attacks compared to rushing into combat w/o using force powers to either bail you out or as buffs to give you the edge - your mileage may vary.
otoh some of those high end upgrades will make for some awesome melee weapons even w/ basic vibroblades.
