About the generators... [SPOILER, highlight to read]
They are located in a fenced area above the howitzer which you used to blow-open the entrance. Apart from placing dynamite at the generators, there is also an opening in the ground that leads to the switch which puts the base on low-power mode, thus allowing you to simply pass through the forcefields, but this way you receive 2-5 damage, maybe even more if you're not wearing power armor [SPOILER END]
