| The evil companions can sometimes disappear, and then the door won't open. This can occur, I think, if you draw the companions all over the place, or if you die while fighting them.
The one time this happened to me, I came back after I had beat the game, and the Mysterious Cave had reset. Possibly it'll reset each time you exit the game.
