I think we had a thread about this before, but I'm not sure. They're called "mondegreens," from a celebrated example that happened about a generation ago. The writer Sylvia Wright was discussing on a tv show having heard an old Scots ballad as a child:

Ye Highlands and Ye Lowlands
Oh where hae you been?
They hae slay the Earl of Murray,
And they laid him on the green.


...only for years, she thought the final line was,

And the Lady Mondegreen.

So she went through puberty wondering whom Lady Mondegreen was. The term mondegreen was coined shortly after that interview.
