| Firstly, I would go for the current system, where there is only classes you can select, and the attributes and skills are based on that. Also, the skill-system in D2 is good, if some changes are made.
For example, the early skills/spells should be made even worth of selecting, because the current system prefers that you do not use that much skillpoints in early game to be able to create good character.
So, either making early skills more worthy of selecting, or putting the option to actually take points out from skills and put to other skills, so that if player sees that his/her early selections were bad because he/she didn't know what to except from later stages, he/she can reput the the skillpoints.
Of course, it could be restricted how much or often you can do it. For example, it could be made so that each time player gains new level, he can remove 1 skillpoint and put it to other skill. This way, the possibility to change the skills is possible, but players are not able to change the skills where poiunts were put every time they encounter new monster with different advantages and disadvantages.
