I heard today that a woman called Maya Evans is the first person to be convicted under particular provisions of the Serious and Organised Crime Act in the UK. She stood outside parliament and read out the names of the British soldiers who have died in Iraq. This is against the law in this country now, since it is characterised as an unauthorised protest within one mile of Westminster. She was given a conditional discharge but I am truly shocked at how far the erosion of free speech has now gone
