| The walkthrough is wrong, there is no key in the first (northernmost) crypt. Check the other ones.
With the Heart of Winter expansion you can use the Alt key to highlight receptacles and doors. The keys are generally in tombs or on statues, not hidden away in wall niches.
Edit: use your Map ('m' key) Screen; it's entirely possible that you've missed a tomb somewhere.
