Also, I am proud to say that Buck has decided to put up a site dedicated to Hellgate:London. Thanks Buck!

Xandax, I know you have been looking for the interface. I have found the interface in the third movie down on this page, as well as how the layout is going to be for equiping your charcter... and an in game battle. Site is here.

Found a movie worth watching on the game here... a trailer for the plot, pretty much... and an action sequence. It is also located on the link above it... the second link is only for people with widescreens.

An E3 report on HG:L on Gamespot, here.

Even though it is listed in the links, Gamespot also has some pretty good movies currently avaiable, including some informative movies about whether or not this game actually fits the term RPG or not. Also, it goes through basic gameplay, and charcter developent, including how the equip screen works. Very interesting. Click here to view the movie page.

1st HG:L site useful. I recomend looking through it... as well as the second. The second is actually even more informative and useful.

Some quick items on HG:L below.

A robust, flexible skill and spell system, highly customizable appearances and a massive variety of randomly generated equipment allow players to create their own unique hero.

On the exhibition floor, publisher Namco had it on prominent display, with a partial build running on perhaps a dozen systems. Invited guests also had the chance for private demo sessions with key team members; in my case, this meant about 20 minutes one on one with Erich Schaefer.

The game takes place in the near future. The world has been torn apart by an onslaught of demons, so the above-ground area I saw was full of broken buildings and heaps of scorched rubble. The latter was also true of the underground location Erich visited, which had once been an area of subway tunnels. Naturally, both had monsters aplenty, on foot and flying. They often came at him from nooks, crannies and side angles, which meant he had to watch his flanks as he moved and led to instances of being caught unaware that definitely enhanced the overall action feel.

That doesn't mean the first-person title will be uni-dimensional. Although the demo showcased combat, Schaefer noted that the team is very cognizant of the need to incorporate a strong RPG layer with a solid story, character development and quest systems et al. Players who enjoy collecting items will be pleased to know that there's a random loot generation scheme designed to provide vast scope for character customization. An interesting aspect is the ability to modify weapons so they do additional damage, which can be of different types. The pistol I saw had one such slot, but I thought I heard other arms can have more. As for your avatar, you'll be able to choose among "several" classes, although no specific number was stated.

As you can tell from the screenshots below, Hellgate's graphics are undeniably of high quality. Not surprisingly, the game looked even better in action, and considering it isn't likely to ship until at least late 2006, it appeared to run very smoothly. Also of note, one of the key features is random map generation. This might cause you to wonder how they will look and how varied they will be. I can't speak to the latter based on what I saw, but neither locale shown during my meeting gave any obvious indication it hadn't been crafted by hand. In terms of specific visual elements, there was a cool selection of monsters to fight, and some eye-catching weapon effects.

Hellgate: London didn't disappoint, and may well have exceeded my pre-show expectations. While it didn't look like a title that will revolutionize the industry, there's plenty of room in the industry for games to thrive and even to become monstrous hits based on being evolutionary, exceptionally crafted, highly polished or all three. Flagship's project just might be one that will do so.
If you have a new link or news that you want posted... or you are having problems with one, please post.

Post your opinions, people.
