My characters are almost always part mage. They may be part fighter or part rogue, but there's always magic in the mix.
In MW, as Locke points out, the game is weighted against the pure mage in any case. If you want to be a mage, you have to start out with a weapon, and you usually ceom to rely upon that in interiors, such as caves, where there isn't much room for manuevering and something large with bad breath is standing right next to you.
