I'm divided on that. On the one hand I don't like using guns and my jedis are always proficient in what a droid can do (computer use, repair, demolitions etc), so that doesn't make me want to play 'normal' characters.
On the other hand because of the above I rarely, if ever, used characters like Carth, Atton, T3, HK-47 or Canderous.
I could have used them in melee, sure, but I want lightsabres flashing around, not vibroswords. If I get to pick use another set or two of force powers in addition to my character's then great, they're infinitely more useful than blasters.
Plus the characters I most liked interacting with were Jedi, because they have a better grasp of what my character was going through and tended to provoke deeper discussions.
