Yeah, it is a really tricky setting, especially because they reformed it and re-released a revised boxed set towards the end of 2nd ed. The newer boxed set is, imo, the best-done boxed set in all of 2nd ed- for example, it came with a paper map for the DM to use with all the secret stuff on it (unknown cities and regions) and a cloth map for the players to use!
That is a great boxed set!
My old DM mentioned something once about doing a Dark Sun campaign in Anauroch, but he never did anything with it. I thought it was a great idea, but that enough
Decanters of Endless Water could make you king of the desert pretty easily. The
Decanters don't exist in Dark Sun (the creators wisely realized that ahead of time)
