| Intelligence increases your number of spells. Different items in the game can be worn by your character when in different professions--but as I recall now, you shouldn't have any problem with armor getting in the way of casting. As soon as you switch professions, inappropriate armor is removed. In fact, when you switch professions, be sure you look at your paper doll. You'll need to add items to your character's wear, since the game doesn't do this for you.
