It's all a matter of degree. I'd say I'm more touchy-feely than the average Texan, but less touchy-feely than, say, the average Swede.

I think that one sign of being a touchy-feely person is the ability not to associate touching with sex all the time. I don't think I need to tell all of you about my sex life in order to say whether I'm a touchy-feely person.

When I was growing up, most of my friends and family members didn't hug or kiss each other. A couple of my college friends did like to hug, and I enjoyed it too, so I started hugging my mother and grandmother whenever I said hello and goodbye to them. I think they were very glad that I initiated that, and now they hug all of their relatives when they say hello and goodbye. I also touch people to comfort them when they're upset, and it seems so natural to me, I'm surprised that more people don't do it. On the other hand, excluding the people I have dated, I have never kissed other people very much (unless I was ordered to by my parents). I'm not sure why little girls are expected to kiss people, but there are lots of things I'm not sure about.

I'm definitely more touchy-feely when it comes to animals: I don't hug other humans I don't know all that much, but I pet every house pet I meet.
