I doubt there is any spell that'll just "fix" him, so probably massive damage is best. Celerity, I think, was what helped me most in that battle. But I have no good advice.
First time I did him, I just put all xp I had gathered on celerity & potence, reloaded several times (attacking head-on) and finally got lucky.
