| Lockpicking is useless. I've complained and complained on the official website about it, as have many others--without a single comment from the developers.
On the other hand, pickpocketing is broken the other way. The sheer number and quality of the items you can steal from merchants is ridiculous. Best remove those points you've invested in lockpicking, and invest a few in pickpocketing. You may make back all the money you spend on removing the lockpicking skills that way, and probably far beyond that.
