Guess I'll try going back to Eltoora and giving her the three books I have (she's really getting her money's worth isn't she?) and see what happens.

This is strange indeed, because the Tome of Death was the one I tested out, and spawned into my own game
As for the DebugMode 1 - then all console/dm commands typed in the chat-box should be prefaced with ##. Otherwise - the game simply "thinks" it is something you want to say in-game. (for instance, talking in multiplayer)
However ... there is another way of typing in these commands, and that is using the console command propmt (in the manual mentioned as being activated by ~), which appears in the upper left corner of the screen.
Typing here dosen't requiere the ##.
If you have somehow managed to get DebugMode 1 activated without the ## in the chatbox ... well - then that is wierd, and I don't know how that could happen
But I suspect you have typed using the command prompt, in the upper left corner? and not the chat-box.
(I just re-tested Tome of Death, and had no problems spawning it in using the mentioned tag??)

Well - at least it worked (sort of
), so now you can just drop the remainding tomes you have and move on with your adventure
