| Did it! Finally!
He seemed to be immuned to everything and nothing damaged him. BUT he did take fire ball damage. Unfortunately at my level (4th) I had but 6 fireballs so I sold everything I could and bought a wand of fire. I also bought a planetar which also uses fire balls and together, we got him.
Geez.
Oh and I did use all your suggestions...regarding changing belt, summoning something strong etc. And of course, I've already become a rabid user of Stone of Recall.
