| i recommend just following the path and avoiding them until most of your party is lvl 4 plus. Then you just go full strength (concentrating on one at a time). Command rarely fails so use that when there are more than one. MAgic missile/Chromatic orb are also quite good.
Always try to keep in close combat because their range attack is worse than the melee.
Horror also works on them, but its slightly cheesy as ankegs cant in fact move, so you can horror a group of them and they wont attack but wont (cant) run away either.
