Gather all the scrolls you can at 9th or 12th level, then let your party go in a good location where they'll hang around, and start learning spells. (Be sure to save before doing so, as you'll probably screw up half or more--yes, I know that's cheese. I'm just passing it along, FWIW.) You should be able to reach 9th level if you've gathered every scroll available to you in the normal course of the game by the time you reach 9th level kensai. With a few more scrolls, which a decent thief might steal, you could make 10th level and regain all your kensai abilities quickly.
but is possible to hack up a kensai sorceror...hehehheheh!!!!

learn to love your blue and purple potions...if you raise your int via blue or purple potion, at 25 you will never fail at copying a spell into your spellbook...so go buy a bunch of blue and purple potions, and lots of scrolls, and every once in a while take out the potions and spells and drink until you're int is nice and high...copy out all your spells into your spellbook.....

you should dual at 12, because of the extra half or full attack per round you get at that level...and if you keep your party small, you will advance very fast in the game...

now quite frankly the kensai mage is cool, but berserker mages are much much better...a kensai mage is almost forced to dual at level 12 because of the extra half attack per round...because they can't wear bracers...the berserker mage can wear bracers including a really seriously cool one later in the game...

the helm of balduran is a wonderful item, kensai mages can't wear them...

from a purely fashion sense, berserker mages have it made...
