Tarantino always has good soundtracks, he obviously has a good sense for that. But I think part of the reason is that he actually has the music in his head when he visualises the scene. (No, I'm not psychic, I've read interviews. ) Whereas other directors might film the scene and then find some music that fits to it, Tarantino already knows what the soundtrack will be - so he films to the rhythm of it.

For the record, I thought the movie was great. I think you can almost forgive the lack of a complex plot (and let's face it, a lot of movies these days are so worried about that, they end up with an overlaboured, tedious plot *cough*Matrix sequels*cough*) because we know it's only part one, and apparently the back story will come out in part two. The simplicity is kind of refreshing.

As I think I said in some other thread, IMO it feels like a live-action anime. (Ummm, aside from the anime segment. ) That's due to the kind of things Frogus mentioned. But I don't think that detracts from the movie.

I don't really get why people would leave halfway through... I don't think the gore feels realistic. But then, I'm not exactly squeamish. But as I said to someone at work who said she thought there was too much blood, what do you expect from a Tarantino movie?!

@Obike I don't really count From Dusk Till Dawn as a Tarantino movie... and IMO it is way inferior to his directorial films.

I am always sceptical of big debuts, which IMO Tarentino is still riding, 11 years later.
So when does it stop being a big debut and become a consistently impressive career?

I know I wouldn't recommend this movie to anyone who disliked Tarantino's former movies, because I think if you don't like his style (and it is prety subjective), you're probably not going to like any of his movies.
