I'm not trying to change your opinions; I hope I didn't give that impression. But I'm curious why you don't like "NPCs with problems" in your party. This parallels an interesting discussion we had about a year ago in the BG2 forum, where people were split between those who found Viconia, Aerie, and Edwin interesting, and those who regarded them as annoying losers.
