Well I've played FNV extensively now and overall I still think it wasn't as good as F3.
I never had much problem with stability with F3, apart from those I caused myself by tinkering with the CS. FNV on the other hand I've found to be very unstable, without my help. This was the same on both computers I played on, and my nephew reported the same problem. How much of that is down to the game itself, and how much down to Steam I don't know, but when I had problems with it refusing to load saved games I eventually found out that if I closed and restarted Steam the problem got sorted.
I stated earlier that the writing was worse than F3, maybe a bit harsh, but I definitely didn't find it better. The alternate paths were I thought a bit of a sham, as they mostly involved the same quest lines but from a slightly different angle. Maybe the fact I couldn't identify with any of the three factions available has a lot to do with it. The Legion I found to be totally unplayable, evil taken to a ridiculous extreme, Nazis with attitude; maybe because of my age there was no way I could stick with them for long.
The NCR on the other hand I thought were just a bunch of fascist imperialists with very few redeeming qualities, and House came across as an insane capitalist megalomaniac. Which left me with the obvious choice of taking over myself; which I have to say wasn't too difficult to play. In fact once I got used to the system I found the game lacked any challenge. Getting bounced early in the game by Legion Assassins was a challenge at first, but as I won and immediately acquired the insanely powerful Thermic Lance, it was effecgtively game over from that point.
My other major problem with the game was the pervasive invisible walls, they are everywhere and completely nullify the concept of open, andbox gaming.
Overall I'd give the game 6/10 as opposed to F3 which, in retrospect, I'd give 6.5.
Distrbution of games, is becoming a little like Democracy (all about money and control) - in the end choice is an illusion and you have to choose your lesser evil.
And everything is hidden in the fine print.
